Our Story
Excerebus® Foundation Inc was founded in 2023 by Colleen Middleton, a United States Air Force Veteran, and a US Army wife of 27 years. During Operation Desert Storm/Shield, on active duty, she was instrumental in preparing Airman for deployment and provided support for the families left behind. Disseminating unit information to the families, arranging social activities and fundraising with fellow Airman, civilian employees, and volunteers to ensure everyone attached to the unit was cared for. This group later became known as Family Readiness Groups (FRG) and is now known as the Soldier and Family Readiness Groups (SFRG).
In the following years, as an Army spouse, Colleen Middleton continued serving the military families and community by taking on leadership roles as the FRG Leader (in several different units), Committee Chair for Boy Scout Troop 787 and as a Cookie Manager for Girl Scouts.
She has been recognized for her selfless service and was commissioned as a "Yellow Rose of Texas" by the Governor's Office; a "Shield of Sparta" by the National Infantry Association; received the "Dr Mary E Walker Award" from US Army Forces Command, as well as the Civilian Patriotic Service award and many other certificates of achievement.
As a Veteran, Colleen Middleton understands the difficulties of transitioning out of the military and how challenging it is to assimilate back into civilian society. Furthermore, she believed that our Veterans deserve more and shouldn't face homelessness or unemployment during or after transition out of the military, no matter how long they have been out. These difficulties have become her driving force to support our Veterans in these situations. It has become our Mission. Excerebus® Foundation Inc will continue supporting and honoring our Heroes by lifting up them up during difficult times after the military.
